I undertook a research project for a large UK bank to inform changes to their banking experience to improve support for impaired individuals. I completed 31 interviews with individuals with a range of impairments (restricted mobility, vision impairments, hearing impairments, cognitive impairments, mental illnesses, and other sensitivities such as gambling addiction, financial abuse survivors, caring for the seriously ill).

Meta Quest 2 Controller Overlay

While preparing for a round of research with an immersive experience, we found there was a need to observe the output from the VR headset and controllers. Finding no suitable options, I developed an overlay for the Meta Quest 2 controllers for use with Steam VR and SteamVR2WS.

Fresh Pots Bot: An design research practice exploration of hybrid office rituals

I designed and built a “Fresh Pots” coffee sensor that detected a fresh communal coffee pot and alerted the wider members of the team in a joyful manner. Built using a Raspberry Pi - GCP Cloud Functions - Slack ‘/commands’ with a Firebase NoSQL database, the system sends joyful alerts to team members when a fresh pot is brewed with descriptors based on time and temperature. An onboard display gives detail of the current ‘pot’ at a glance.

Service Design for Social Innovation: Sustainable Community Spaces

Large scale social innovation is needed to combat the climate crisis. Using Service Design methodologies, this project centres into the wicked problem of scaling-up through data and embodied knowledge, the work of a volunteer group providing heating analysis and education for community spaces such as churches across Scotland to improve heating efficiency, thereby reducing carbon emissions and promoting conditions for space usage.

Usability Analysis: IoT Ecosystem Product

I was recruited to improve the usability of an IoT Asset Tracking product ecosystem. To inform these changes I performed a heuristic analysis, corroborated my findings using ethnographic observation, then synthesised required changes into low-fi prototypes for the product development team.
